Projekt 1: Schaumburg, Illinois, USA – “the Gothic of the new millenium”
- Sculptor, Michael Re, USA
- Sculptor, Klaus Vieregge, Germany
- Interactive planning / creating of a sculpture
The sculpture, “Gothic”, was created by Klaus Vieregge on behalf of the 3. International Obernkirchen Sculptor Symposium.
In 1998 the Schaumburg German-American Society donated this sculpture to the citizens of its sister city, Schaumburg, Illinois, where it was placed in the Chicago Athenaeum’s
International Sculpture Park.
Based upon the sculpture, “Gothic”, by Klaus Vieregge, a new sculpture shall be created:
-
The sculpture, “Gothic”, symbolises the architecture
and the art of the middle- and late-middle ages as well as the 400 years of the traditional art of sculpture in Obernkirchen, “the town of the sandstone”.
- Now an american artist/architect is challenged to create a “Gothic of the new millenium”.
- The outline/sketch for the sculpture shall be made in the USA by Michael Re.
- The transformation into stone shall be done by Klaus Vieregge during the 5. International Obernkirchen Sculptor
Symposium and the process will be transmitted to the internet.
- With a webcamera the working procedures and the creation of the sculpture will be transmitted to the internet.
- In a daily internet-communication artists on two continents will create the sculpture, hand in hand – interactive.

With its 400 years of the traditional art of sculpture Obernkirchen is

and the art of sculpture creating a sculpture for the new millenium.
The outline/sketch for the sculpture shall be made in the Japan by Isamu Fujimoto.
